Small Business Saturday: From Our Family to Yours

Family Day, Saturday November 28th

It’s that time of year again. You’ve taken down all your Halloween decorations and started planning who’s-bringing-what to Thanksgiving dinner this year. You’re sending out your holiday wish lists to friends and family, and maybe you’ve done a little bit of gift shopping already yourself. The biggest holiday shopping weekend of the year is coming around the corner with Black Friday on November 27th this year.

Since 2010, American Express has sponsored a new kind of holiday shopping extravaganza. Small Business Saturday, celebrating it’s 5th birthday this year, is a way for you to get out and show your support for the businesses that make your community unique.

This year, AmEx has introduced a new theme: Family Day! We at Pearls International feel that this is a great way to express what Small Business Saturday means, because so many of the small businesses around the country (ourselves included!) are family owned and operated. Unlike many of the big-box retailers, we have a unique perspective on how much you want to make this holiday season special for your family. Every day of the year, we strive to offer the best shopping experience to our customers. Behind the counter, we have coloring sheets to entertain your kids while you shop, and if you’re not quite done looking but your husband has gone a little dazzle-blind, he’s welcome to hang out on the ever-popular “man couch” — complete with television and magazines to flip through. Not to mention, at Pearls International, you get stress-free, 100% satisfaction guaranteed, warrantied jewelry and gifts, many of which are hand crafted here in our own workshop. That’s an experience you won’t find at the jewelry counter in a department store.

So this year, get out there and #ShopSmall. Still not convinced? Check out these reasons to buy local.

Big news from our little business!

As many of you who have shopped with us may know, Pearls International is a small, family owned company. These past couple of months have been very, very busy for us and we are excited to announce that we have just taken a very big step in growing our business!

Blank slate, no floors, old paint. Jim and Marty survey the battlefield.

Pearls International now has two locations to serve you! We have been dreaming of opening a new store for quite some time, and have just recently been given that opportunity. A storefront we had our eye on went out of business due to retirement, and we were happy to fill the spot. Little did we know, we had our work cut out for us. Our first step was to grow our staff – two stores requires twice the Pearl Girls! If you have been around the Daytona Beach Shores location, you may have seen some of our new girls learning the ropes of working in a jewelry store and learning all about our wonderful selection of different shapes, colors, and sizes of pearls! Next, we had to get the new location ready to bring in our inventory. This involved pulling up the layers of flooring (all five of them!) so we could lay down our new tile, painting walls, refurbishing jewelry cases, designing displays, and whole LOT of cleaning – all while keeping our first location running smooth for our wonderful Daytona Beach Shores customers.

Jim and Marty put the finishing touches on the store, about 5am the night before the Grand Opening! There were MANY all-nighters.

So, after many all-nighters and some unexpected bumps in the road, we are happy to announce that our Grand Opening was a success! Thank you to everyone that joined us in our ribbon cutting ceremony on November 15th, and if you haven’t seen the new store yet, please stop by! We would love to see you. You can find us at 177 East Granada Blvd, Ormond Beach, FL 32176.

Shop Local

Reasons to Shop Small

As some of you may know, Small Business Saturday is coming up this weekend on November 26th. Small Business Saturday was designed to help recognize, promote and show support for locally owned businesses all over the country. Here are just a few reasons to keep mom-and-pop shops in your community in mind this year, and especially this weekend, for your shopping needs.

1) When you buy from a locally owned business, more than 50% of the money you spend stays in the community.

2) Small businesses provide more jobs locally, helping the economy in your town.

3) Locally owned businesses create products and services based on their own interests, rather than corporate-controlled national sales plans, so with more small businesses comes a greater variety of purchase choices. And that is just one way mom-and-pop shops help keep our community unique.

4) Smaller businesses are more likely to give back. Non-profit organizations receive an average of 250% more support from small businesses than they do from larger companies.

5) Your local business cares about YOU. Mom-and-pop shops tend to be friendlier, more hospitable, and take the extra time and effort to get to know their customers. Employees at small businesses in your town are more likely to recognize, remember, and support you.

Join us this weekend in supporting your favorite Daytona Beach Shores business with our Open House Sale! Come out, have some fun, support your local economy, and start checking off your shopping list for this Holiday Season. We’ll have in-store specials for 60% Off Gold Plate Jewelry, Holiday Layaway, and 20% off Gift Cards all weekend!
