This November 24th is Small Business Saturday®, a day to celebrate and support the local small businesses that boost the economy and invigorate neighborhoods across the country.
Nearly everyone has a list of sales and gifts to be purchased on the traditional inaugural Christmas shopping day, however, so many people forget about Small Business Saturday, the day after Black Friday. It is common to forget about smaller businesses as deal busters but most do provide their customers with deep discounts before the holidays!
All businesses have to start somewhere, and that somewhere is Small. Consider the garage days for the founders of large companies like Microsoft or Apple. They didn’t get to where they are without effort and growth.
A small business is defined broadly — as a company with 500 or fewer employees. In all reality, it is the small businesses that keep the local economy alive. In a recent article “18 Amazing Facts About Small Businesses In America,” it was stated that small businesses contribute to over 40% of Americans’ payrolls, while nearly 80% of all new jobs are created by small businesses. In the same article however, it was suggested that only 50% of small businesses stay open over 5 years due to the likelihood of bankruptcy.
